Ancestry research has exploded in popularity in recent years, and it’s easy to understand why. At some point in our lives, every one of us has been asked about our heritage, our family origins or the winding branches of our own family tree. For me, that curiosity has always been there. Maybe it grew from a natural love of history — a subject I gravitated toward throughout college — or maybe it came from simply wanting to understand the people who came before me.

December 15, 2021, will forever stand apart in Iowa’s weather history. What unfolded that evening was not just unusual — it was unprecedented. From record-shattering warmth to a historic tornado outbreak and the nation’s first December derecho, the atmosphere behaved in ways no Iowan had ever witnessed. Even now, four years later, it remains one of the most extraordinary weather events in the modern record.

As part of the grand opening of the new Kwik Star location in Osage on Thursday, Dec. 4, the store took a moment to make two community donations.

A ribbon cutting was held in the morning on Thursday, Dec. 4 to mark the official grand opening of Kwik Star at 809 Main St. in Osage.

An effort by a local Osage woman to bring a little cheer to soldiers overseas was realized thanks to community support.

At the young age of 11, Isaac Hemann was already dreaming big and putting those dreams into motion.
