Saints nearly complete epic comeback

One of the true marks of champion is what it takes to beat them. Saint Ansgar showed what championship pedigree is all about even though they came up just short in the Class 1A Substate finals against Ankeny Christian.

The Saints trailed 12-4 heading into the bottom of the sixth but just like in a title fight in boxing, Ankeny Christian didn’t land a knockout punch and Saint Ansgar got off the mat and started swinging.

Osage puts scare into Wahlert

Osage didn’t show up at the University of Dubuque for the Class 3A-Region 2 Championship against No. 2 Wahlert to prove they belong. But if anyone was wondering, the Green Devils made it clear the folks who are in charge of the rankings made a big mistake keeping Osage out of the top 15.

Saints win district championship

A conference rival and a familiar foe stood in the way of the Saint Ansgar baseball team and a second straight district championship as the Saints hosted North Butler on July 11. The Saints already owned two wins over the Bearcats in the regular season winning 11-1 and 13-5. 

Green Devils streak past Comets

Emmery Dodd is having no problem dealing with the pressure of playoff softball. The sophomore homered in the Green Devils win over North Butler in the regional quarterfinals and she provided the early thunder for Osage in their regional semifinal win over Charles City on July 11.

Blast from Gast leads Osage to win

If anyone wasn’t sure Erica Gast was worthy of the conference player of the year award, the Osage senior made a loud statement with her bat that could be heard around North Iowa.

Riceville tops Rockford
Ellie Dvorak went 3-for-3 and Kylee Perry had a pair of hits and an RBI as the Wildcats beat Rockford 2-1 at home on June 29. Payton Becker added an RBI and Addison Ptacek pitched five innings, struck out seven Rockford hitters while not giving up a hit or a run.
Saints shut out Belmond-Klemme

Connor Mullenbach shut down Belmond-Klemme on the mound and Grayson Falk collected three hits for the Saints offense as they beat the Broncos 10-0 in Class 1A-5 District Semifinals. The Saints will host North Butler in the Class 1A-District 5 Championship game on July 11.

Saints blow out North Iowa in softball

 

The Saint Ansgar softball team scored 10 runs in the first inning and never looked back as they beat North Iowa 17-0 in the Class 1A-Region 5 Tournament at home on July 6. The Saints advance to the region quarterfinals at Starmont on June 8.

Osage opens district tournament with win

Ty Voigt pitched a complete game allowing only two hits and no earned runs while striking out six North Fayette Valley hitters as the Green Devils won 5-2 to advance to the Class 2A-District 5 semifinals against Waukon on July 7.

Riceville sails past Vikings

The Riceville baseball team scored early, put up a big, crooked number in the middle and had a pair of pitchers keep Northwood-Kensett quiet as the Wildcats advanced in the Class 1A-5 Tournament with an 11-3 win on July 3.
